About me

Lucy Brinicombe

Communications consultant

I have been a communications consultant since 2021, supporting organisations to bring change for good.

My expertise draws from more than 20 years in journalism and the INGO/charity sector where I have delivered media, PR and strategic communications. I create and implement strategies, secure national and global media coverage, craft compelling narratives and develop powerful stories. I am a mentor and provide bespoke media and communications training.

Before becoming a consultant I learnt how communications can make an impact at Oxfam. My experience there was broad and includes creating integrated communications campaigns, leading global and national media strategies, working at international conferences and providing strategic advice at a senior level.

Other highlights include content gathering, developing stories and building communications capacity, along with media trips, coalition work and reputation building.

I’ve worked across development issues – particularly emergencies, climate change and gender justice. And I love how freelancing gives me the chance to take on new issues, learn more and continue meeting and working with inspirational people.

I’m passionate about the impact communications can have and enjoy listening to clients, suggesting solutions and playing my part in bringing them to life. I work collaboratively and adapt to the job in hand, whether it is in a leadership or advisory role, working independently or in a team.

Lucy was a delight to work with. She was professional, kind and very careful about the highly complex story we were telling, securing some amazing coverage for us. Lucy is very good at managing relationships with journalists and has a deep understanding of what they need. She’s also completely unflappable – giving sound advice in the face of the inevitable twists and turns of a fast-changing media environment.
